Corrine's Shadow Box Frame Sample

This acrylic & wood shadow box frame uses Graphics 45 paper in the background and foreground.  It has a paper clay molded frozen charlotte doll, metal snap, angel wing shown below and brass round eyeglass frames with a touch of a brown ink--for coolness factor.

Brass Charm Pictures are not actual size- to get accurate size, read measurements and make a little note on a piece of paper to get an accurate idea of the correct size.

Coloring your metal-  There may be times when you would like to add color to the charm or a particular area of the charm.  Nowadays there are many ways to do this.  I love so many of the nail polish colors, and enjoy coloring metals with them.  Ranger makes alcohol inks which work well and give you a mottled look.  Vintaj makes some great coloring inks too and we carry both the Alcohol inks and Vintaj products.

Brass Wing Set Charms~Lovely detail on these wings.  You get 2 sets (4 pieces) and the wing measures approx. a little over 1" from top of wing to bottom and approx. 1/2" at its widest point.  Don
t forget, you can always add extra oomph to your metal charms with alcohol inks by Ranger.  They are for non-porous surfaces.  Pkg of 2 sets (4 pieces).

coin12use.jpg

French Coin Charm~ This must be a replica of an old coin.  It looks like it is dated 1806 and says "Republique Francais" around the perimeter of the womans head.  The coin measures approx. 11/16" in diameter.  It also comes with a hole at the top so you can adhere iwth glue or cording.  Pkg.  7

disk2use.jpg

Ornate Brass Floral Disc Charm~ This disc measures approx. 1/2" wide (smaller than a dime).  It is very nicely decorated with beading all around the perimeter of it along with a diamond in the center accented with more beading and a small flower in the center of the diamond.  Just glue on your project to add a touch of class.  Pkg. 6.

griduse.jpg

Brass Grid -Makes me hungry for waffles!  This charm measures approx. 1 1/8" in diameter.  I think this charm could be used in an unlimited amount of ways.  I think it is pretty alone as the center of a card, I think you could imbed it into polymer clay and hang things from it, attach it to a book, card or other project and again hang beads, charms or anything else from it.  How about just tying some petite pretty ribbons from it  and have them streaming down.  It could easily have an Asian feel to it also.  I hope I got your imagination going on this one.  Pkg. 5.

This is a 2" hardware metal washer that was covered with some favorite paper.  I used the grid charm to cover the center opening of the washer and then added the pretty crown charm to the grid.  Wow, I had such fun with the washers the evening I made these.  There is also a rectangle "create" charm added to the bottom.  I used a tri-frame hanger on the back, secured with Ranger Glossy Accents and then added a gold bead and some black silk cording.  I used the metal copper tape around the perimeter of the washer.

Brass Domed Grid~ This is the charm above, but it has been dapped to create this shape.  I think there are a multitude of possibilities with this one.  You can use as is, put over a picture or something to create some mystery as to what it inside it.  Wire 2 of the domes together to create a cage.  You could put beads or crystals inside, or any other little trinket or charm.  This measures approx. 1" in diameter.  The dome height is approx. 1/4" high.  I picture it too in a mosaic and covering one or more of the stones, marbles or whatever you are embedding for the mosaic.  It could also be a little doll hat.
Package of 4 charms.

maskuse.jpg

The Mask Brass Charm~This mask is 3 dimensional- the best way to describe it is if you had a face it could fit over, there would be a place for the eyese and nose to fit into, just like a real mask.  It is rounded on the sides also so it will wrap around a dolls face.  It sets up a bout 1/4" high.  I think you could make the eyes look really sharp.  They are recessed but flat so you could put glitter, paint, small no hole beads, etc. to make the eyes pop.  You could make the maks look very intimidating by possibly putting some black marker on the eyebrows or mardi gras them up with glitter.  Many possibilities.  This is made from brass and pretty bright gold.  The mask measures approx, 1" wide and approx. 7/8" high at its highest on the sides.

My sad little mask doll~made from bits of other jewelry from a 2nd hand store.  It has a brass charm on the center part too and brads hold the legs on.  The mask is mounted on a piece of painted 1x1 chipboard square.  There is a close up of the face below.  It even had a little tear (made from Glossy Accents) on its face.  I colored the eyes with the sepia tone of Glossy Accents for some depth.  Check out the picture at the bottom of this page to see how I used the masked doll- it is in a 9 panel art tile board.  Now I can look at him everyday.

wingssuse.jpg

Brass Charm Wings/Star Shoots/Antlers~This can be used in many ways on your projects- it makes a great pair of wings; you can use it with a star stamp as a shooting star or use with your favorite deer, elk or moose stamp as antlers.  You can also use it just as a cool embellishment to bring attention to something on your card, book, etc.  The charm measures approx. 1 3/8" long from the top of the ring to the furthest point on the charm and approx. 1/2" at its widest.  It comes packaged in a set of 4- which is 8 pieces (4 facing left and 4 pieces facing right) .
$1.39

rul2eruse.jpg

Brass Ruler Charm~This charm shows a small ruler with 3" increments on it but it actually measures approx. 7/8" long including the top ring.  It measures approx. 1/8" wide.  All your projects will "measure up" when you use this creative little embellishment.  Pkg 4 charms.
$0.59

tinyhertuse.jpg

Teeny Tiny Little Brass Heart Charm~This is so cute!  So mini--make sure you read the measurements.  It will set on the top of the head of an eraser on a mechanical pencil...teeny.  It measures approx. a little more than 1/4" high and approx. 3/16" at its widest.  Did I say it was soooo cute?  One suggestion might be for a new born or preemie baby card; you could string several on the front of a card or scrapbook page, color it in with alcohol inks or Sharpie markers for a whole different look.  You could have a green heart for St. Patricks Day, a red heart for Valentines, pink or blue for a baby card, etc.  Use with a picture of your kitty or doggy or even grandkids, tie some string, ribbon, or cording through it and then wrap a present for a cancer patient/survivor with it or a heart patient.  Just so many cute things you can do with it.  Pkg. 4
$0.49

as4coinuse.jpg

Brass Asian Coin Charm~This is a bright shiny Asian style coin charm with 4 Asian symbols on the front.  It measures approx. almost 3/4" in diameter not including the ring at the top.  The little rings are easily removed with any kind of scissors or nippers for metal.  If you don't get a smooth edge when you cut, just use a metal file or even sanding paper (on a block) and you can smooth any rough edges right up.  You can also add color or tone it down with alcohol inks, Sharpie pens, acrylic ink.  Pkg 4 charms.
$0.59

r4inguse.jpg

Brass Oval Ring Charm~ I think this charm can be used in a number of different ways.  You could apply the Ranger black & white enamel to it for a faux enameled look, punch holes in it and dangle other things from it, stamp on it to create a pattern with Staz On Ink, center over a favorite picture as a frame, flatten and texture with a hammer (it is slightly domed).  Add it to jewelry, (steam punk or industrial chic), boooks, cards, etc.  The charm measures approx. almost 1 1/8" high and approx. almost 3/4" at its widest.  Pkg of 4 charms.

colrdpncilmetaluse.jpg

These pieces were colored with Prismacolor Colored Pencils.  This is a fun way to add color to any metal piece.  First you paint it with Gesso.  I added 2-3 coats on each and let it dry overnight- that is the best way.  I then colored the metal, just up and down, I liked that the best.  I would lay down one color and then go over it with another color.  I then used a spray working fixative.  I added more color after that dried, but it is more muted after you spray.  On the lime green one I used a Stabilo All Pencil (the best little item to have in your stash- marks on any surface).  It is best to use the spray working fixative after you add any Stabilo All Pencil work because then you can work on top of it.  These are not the finished pieces, I will have that picture up shortly, but I really did like the way the pencil works on the gesso treated metal.  You could paint half with gesso and leave the other side just metal for a cool look.  After I finished with them, I just painted a matte gel medium over them.  Just another way to use your metals in your art or jewelry.

domebeadcapuse.jpg

Brass Bead Cap Charm~This is an interesting charm.  Its intended use was as a bead cap for about a 14 mm bead (1.5cm).  It has beautiful ridges all around it-great little doll cap/hat, little chest covers-not wooden one- the other kind, ha ha.  It has a center hole so it lends itself well to being added onto cording and dangled from a project.  It measures approx. 5/8" across the open part of it and the little center hole measures approx. 1/8" across or a 3 mm opening.  So use as an embellishment or with your beads and think of new ways to use it.  It is pictured from both sides on the scan.
 Pkg of 4.

crayonuse.jpg

Brass Crayon Tip Charm~How perfect is this for us crafty girls.  Everyone seems to love to color- no matter how old or young you are.  This charm has a hole at the top tip and could be used in a number of ways.  I think it would be very cool added to a book mark to dangle down- great gift for a crafter, artist, mixed media person, etc.  Not to mention all the projects in scrapbooks, books, cards, etc.  This charm measures approx. 1 1/8" high and approx. 5/8" wide.  It looks like a crayon cut in half vertically.  It is round and has a hollow back.  Pkg of 4 charms.

Brass Charm Angel Wings & More~This charm can be used for many different things.  You could use it as angel wings and add some rhinestones or beads to the outside holes.  You could hide the top under another brass piece or paper, etc. and use the holes to dangle beads, or other small items from.  Bend the arms out for a 3-dimensional look, use in jewelry- necklace, etc.  Many possibilities.  Shown in 2 views to help stimulate that imagination of yours.
Package of 6 pieces.

These  samples  show how you can add presence and punch to a smaller charm or embellishment by using it with a larger item.    Thesamples are shown on 1x1 chipboard pieces.  The fleur de lis is on painted chipboard and the crown is on chipboard painted with Distress Crackle paint and some tiny no-hole beads added before it dried.

p3070038use.jpg

I had the most fun doing this piece.  I started out just playing with some of the charms and made the mask doll and several of the other pieces on it.  This is done on an art tile board which has 9 divided panels on it.  I painted the rececessed divided areas with black paint- I used the Claudine Hellmuth Studio acrylic black- I really liked it- went on very well.  I cut Graphics 45 and Stampin' Up paper to fit the divided panels and glued that down.  I then laid out some of the pieces I had been working on the panels and dug around for a couple more things-polymer clay pieces and used white dominos stamped with black Staz-on ink in the center.  I then painted the frame using Ranger's Expresso acrylic dabber paint.  I applied it using Rangers Cut & Dry foam- which is wonderful for applying large areas of paint.  Now I can enjoy all my little pieces all the time hanging on the wall

p4110024use.jpg

This canvas started out as one thing and then ended up going in a whole different direction.  It has 3 of the maple leaf charms on the left, a Tim Holtz muse token embelllishment, a metal rectangle embellishment in the center and the 7 Gypsies curved embellishment in the top right corner.
Just simple but another way to show how you can incorporate canvas and brass charms into a home decor piece or inspiration on the wall of your art room.

embuse.jpg

This pieces uses 35 of the 1"x1" chipboard squares.  It is adhered to a 5"x7" canvas using Claudine Hellmuth Matte Medium Adhesive.  It incorporates images stamped into platinum embossing powder, several brass charms, including the lock shown above and Tim Holtz tokens.

necklace2use.jpg

Embellishment Necklace~ This necklace was constructed using leather suede lace in brown.  I used a wire curler to curl some silver wire and slipped it over the leather cord.  I hung an assortment of varied embellishments from the wire using jump rings, fish line bait hook thingies and wire.  Some of the Articus embellishments used were brass charms, door knob (without the key) Tim Holtz license plate paper, photo anchors and a large faux glass rectangle rubber stamped.  Other embellishments used were keys I used to have for sale, vintage wooden bingo chips, clear acrylic buttons with a picture behind them, chunky semi-precious stone and other charms.
I did prep work for some of the embellishments one night and constructed it the next night.  It didn't take very long at all.
