Vintaj Metal Refining Sanding Block~This block comes with 3 different grits to add design
relief to your metal projects. The Dark Grey Sides (there are 2 dark grey sides) are the heaviest grit and they will
remove paint and patina from raised areas. The White side (medium grit) will lightly relief embossed and raised areas.
The light grey side in the finiest grit and it will buff and polish your metals. You can also use this block for other
prjects- with paper, polymer clay, chip board, grunge board, wood, leather, acrylic, textiles, foil, canvas and more.
The block measures approx. almost 3 3/4" long and 1 1/2" wide- fits in the palm of your hand comfortably.
Vintaj Metal File~Use to smooth rough edges of metal created by cutting with shears,
or by smoothing burs created when you cut the rings off your brass charms. If you don't have a metal file for your metal
work- you don't know what you are missing. The ease of use and the smooth edges are so worth it. This one has
a nice ergonomic handle-which, I think, is important when you are doing a considerable amount of metal work and smoothing.
Typically with a file, you don't move it back and forth (it is not a sawing motion)- you use it in one direction on your metal.
I usually use my files in a forward motion on the metal. This is important, don't forget & they don't mention it
on the packaging. Then from time to time, you can also clean the teeth of the file if you have any metal bits in it.
This has been my "go to" file for a number of years now.
Vintaj Metal Awl~ "Awl-ways" have an awl handy. Well, it is almost my motto.
An awl is a wonderfully useful tool. Use it to expand loops or holes in charms to accomodate rivets. Use it to
enlarge openings in filigree brass charms and soldered chain to accomodate jump rings. Comes with
ergonomic grip and measures approx. 5" high.
Vintaj Metal Shears~ I can't tell you just how nice these really are. I have 2
other pairs of shears & they just don't do what these do. One of the nicest features I like about these over my
other shears is that the blade is not serrated. In using other shears to cut 24 gauge copper, I would always have more
filing time because they serrated the edge of the copper when I cut it. So, I even recommend 2- as I accidentally cut
some steel pen nibs & they dinged the blade- so will keep them for different metals. Use these to cut brass in the
large selection of brass charms we have. The blade is 1.5" long, it has a single spring leaf for comfort & ease
of use. This is true- the other shears I have tried have made my arthritis unhappy and mean but I can breeze through
quite a few pieces before I start to feel fatigue in my hand. It also has a nice locking mechanism on the handle so
when you store them, nothing can ding them up. I would rate them 10 out of 10!
Here is a copper piece I made using the Vintaj shears and Vintaj metal file. I am a bit
of a tool whore, so have numerous files and I keep the Vintaj ones handy all the time. I find they are easier to use
than some of my other files and I even have a little ergonomic piece to use with my files, but these are just so nice and
handy, I like the filing part, I find it relaxing. I have also used the sanding block extensively to finesse my
pieces. That and a combo of another grittier sanding block from Lucky Squirrel (that's on a different page) and fine
So, for the money, these are very functional long lasting tools. I also have some arthritis
in my hands but I find less fatigue and soreness using these. Win win win!
